The treatments create small, controlled injuries in the skin. The skin responds by forming new collagen, and the surface becomes smoother over the following weeks and months.
CO2 and erbium lasers work with light and have the deepest effect. RF microneedling delivers heat through fine needles and suits more skin types. A pico laser gives radiance and smaller pores with shorter downtime.

After RF microneedling the skin is red and warm for 1–2 days, rather like a mild sunburn. After CO2 laser, a few days of redness and peeling is normal.
It varies with your goals and your skin. Sometimes one treatment is enough, sometimes a series a few weeks apart is needed. The practitioner makes a plan for your skin.

Follow the clinic's aftercare advice. Use sun protection and avoid make-up for the first 24 hours.
Reasons to avoid treatment include pregnancy and breastfeeding, active herpes or infection, a recent course of isotretinoin, sunburnt skin and a tendency to keloid scarring. The clinic always goes through a health questionnaire first.
